Description

Convert a TRAD-2001 or TRAD-2002 to Continental Up-Hung Delivery

The Flight CONT-3002 is a continental delivery head that converts a TRAD-2001 or TRAD-2002 traditional down-hung delivery unit to continental configuration. On a traditional unit the handpiece tubing hangs below the delivery head, so every time you lift a handpiece you also lift and drag its hose. On a continental unit each handpiece rests on top of the head and its tubing runs through a spring-tensioned whip arm that travels with your hand and carries part of the load. It is a change in how the unit works in the hand rather than a change in what it does.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Spring-tensioned whip arms - each handpiece tubing is guided and partly supported by its own whip, which travels with the handpiece instead of resisting it
  • Designed to reduce pull-back - the whip takes up the tubing rather than letting it drag, so less grip force goes into holding the handpiece against the hose
  • Helps offset the weight of electric handpieces - an electric motor and attachment put considerably more load in the hand than a lightweight air turbine, and the whip carries part of it
  • Designed to reduce hand and wrist fatigue over a long appointment
  • Top-mounted handpiece pickup - instruments sit on the head where they are picked up and replaced directly, with no holder to hang them back into
  • Automatic tubing management - release the handpiece and the whip guides the tubing back toward the head; no loose hoses hanging beneath the unit or dragging on the floor
  • Helps protect the handpiece - a supported tubing run reduces the chance of an expensive motor or turbine ending up on the floor
  • Fits the TRAD-2001 and TRAD-2002 delivery unit only - it is not compatible with cart-mounted delivery, including the A-Series doctor's carts
  • Handpiece connections are unchanged - the conversion changes hose routing, not the couplings, so your existing handpieces carry over

Clinical and Workflow Advantages

Down-hung and continental are a matter of working preference, and clinicians tend to feel strongly once they have used both. What continental routing changes is where your hands and eyes have to go during a procedure.

  • Instruments stay in the natural working zone. With the head positioned in front of you rather than behind the patient's head, handpieces and the air/water syringe are picked up without extended reaching, leaning or torso twisting.
  • Less visual interruption. Handpieces sit in a known position on top of the head and can be retrieved and returned largely by feel and peripheral vision, so your attention does not have to leave the treatment field and travel to a darker area to find an instrument.
  • Freedom to change working position. Staying locked in one posture all day is the habit dental ergonomics guidance warns against; a delivery head you can reposition supports moving around the patient's head through the procedure.
  • Right- and left-handed operators. A correctly positioned continental head can be repositioned for different clinicians, which matters where one operatory is shared.
  • A cleaner working area. Tubing stays organised on the head instead of hanging across the tray among burs, instruments and materials.

These are design and positioning benefits. No delivery system prevents work-related musculoskeletal problems on its own, and the ergonomic literature comparing delivery styles head to head is thin - what continental routing does is remove specific motions from the procedure.

Why Choose the CONT-3002

It converts an existing TRAD-2001 or TRAD-2002 for a fraction of the cost of a new delivery unit, so a practice that bought one configuration and prefers the other does not have to replace a working unit. If you are buying an operatory outright, specify the configuration you want up front instead. One honest counterpoint: a continental head sits closer to the patient and in their line of sight, which some practices - paediatric operatories in particular - would rather avoid. What's Included

  • One CONT-3002 continental delivery unit head with whip arm tubing support
  • Not included: delivery unit, cart, handpieces, tubing or installation. This is the conversion head for a TRAD-2001 or TRAD-2002 you already own

Warranty and Support

Five year manufacturer warranty on parts, workmanship and materials, per Flight's published warranty schedule for delivery systems. Wear and tear items are excluded - gaskets, tubing and filters - as are normal service items such as o-rings, hoses, HVE and SE valves and 3-way syringes. Warranty applies where the product is installed by an authorized Flight dealer, and each unit must be registered with Flight separately. Call 833-303-7399 with your delivery unit model and serial before ordering, so we can confirm the conversion and what installation involves.

FAQs

Upgrade from TRAD-2001

Q: What does the CONT-3002 actually do?

A: It converts a traditional downhung delivery unit to continental uphung. The hoses come up and over the tray instead of hanging below it.

Q: Which units does it fit?

A: Flight TRAD-2001 and TRAD-2002 delivery units, including the mobile carts built on them.

Q: Why choose continental over traditional?

A: Handpiece hoses sit above the tray, so they are not hanging in the working space or dragging across the patient. Which one suits you is a working-style preference, not a quality difference.

Q: Is this a whole delivery unit?

A: No - it is the delivery unit head. You are converting an existing TRAD-2001 or TRAD-2002, not buying a complete cart.

Q: Can I convert back?

A: Ask before assuming. The head is the component that changes; call 833-303-7399 with your unit's serial and we will confirm what the conversion involves.

Q: Does it change the number of handpiece positions?

A: Confirm your current configuration with us before ordering - position count is set by the delivery unit you are converting.

Q: Is installation included?

A: No. This is a component; installation is arranged separately.

Q: Will my existing handpieces still work?

A: Yes - the conversion changes hose routing, not the handpiece connections.

Q: What is the difference between TRAD-2001 and TRAD-2002?

A: Styling only, and both carry 5 positions. Neither has a functional advantage over the other.
