Description

The Everyday Standard Head, With Fiber Optics and Four-Port Spray

The Flight F-162K is the general-purpose handpiece of the fiber-optic line: a standard Ø11.2 x H 13.5 mm head, 21 watts of power, four spray ports and fiber optic illumination through a KaVo-type coupling. It is the model most operatories run all day for restorative preparation.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Standard head, Ø11.2 x H 13.5 mm
  • 21 watts of cutting power
  • Four spray ports — the most coolant coverage in this line
  • Fiber optic light transmission
  • KaVo-compatible backend

Clinical and Workflow Advantages

  • Routine crown preparation, caries removal and restorative refinement
  • Four-port spray holds coolant on the bur through sustained cutting
  • Familiar head geometry, so burs and technique carry across from most standard handpieces
  • Fiber optics place light in the preparation rather than relying on overhead illumination

Why Choose This Handpiece

This is the default of the four fiber-optic models, and the others are departures from it: the F-161K trades head size for access, the F-163K trades spray ports for 25 W of torque, and the F-160K trades power band for a 45-degree surgical angle. If one handpiece has to cover general restorative work, the F-162K is the one that does. It shares its head geometry with the non-optic F-140, so a practice can run both and keep bur handling consistent.

FAQs

Flight Standard Head Highspeed Handpiece with Fiber Optic

Q: Is the F-162K the right choice for general restorative work?

A: Yes — it is the general-purpose model of the line. Standard Ø11.2 mm head, 21 W and four spray ports cover crown preparation, caries removal and refinement without specialising in any one of them.

Q: What is the difference between this and the F-140 at $180.95?

A: Head geometry is identical at Ø11.2 x H 13.5 mm and both are 21 W. The F-162K adds fiber optic illumination and a KaVo-type backend; the F-140 is non-optic and threads directly onto 4-hole Midwest tubing. The optics and coupling account for the difference.

Q: How many spray ports, and does it matter?

A: Four, the highest count in this line alongside the F-161K. More ports distribute coolant more evenly around the bur, which matters most during long preparations where heat accumulates.

Q: Does it come with a coupler?

A: No. The KaVo-compatible backend fits a KaVo-type coupling, purchased separately. Flight makes matching 4-hole and 6-hole couplers.

Q: When would I choose the F-163K instead?

A: When the work is heavy — crown sectioning and metal cutting. The F-163K delivers 25 W against this model's 21 W, in a larger Ø12.5 mm head with three spray ports rather than four.

Q: Will my current burs work?

A: Yes, standard friction-grip burs. The standard head geometry is the most common in the market, so bur selection and feel carry over from most handpieces.

Q: What does it cost to run alongside the F-140?

A: Both are 21 W standard-head handpieces at Ø11.2 x H 13.5 mm, so they share burs and technique. The F-162K is $585.95 with optics; the F-140 is $180.95 without.

Q: How is it maintained?

A: Lubricate before each sterilisation cycle to Flight's instructions. Automatic maintenance systems remove the inconsistency of hand lubrication, which is the main determinant of turbine life.

Q: Does it ship from the United States?

A: Yes, from our US warehouse, with warranty coordination handled by DentalMarketplace.
